Design And Beautification
The Design and Beautification Committee meets at 5:30pm on the 3rd Monday of every month in the Visitor Center.
What is Design and Beautification?
The Design Committee encourages physical improvements in the commercial district, educates property and business owners about proper preservation methods and plans for future growth downtown
Design and Beautification’s goals include improving the quality of life in downtown and to help make Spruce Pine more appealing to residents, visitors, and potential businesses.
Design and Beautification Projects
Design projects range from downtown beautification, facade grants, to art installations, mural projects, new sidewalks, and much more.
We Need Your Help
In addition to major collaborative projects like art installations and sidewalks, volunteers on the Design committee get out and get their hands dirty in a variety of ways. Folks on this committee and other volunteer helpers build beds and plant flowers, clear bush and plant trees, paint old walls and railings, create pocket parks in unused places are always looking to spruce up and bring a little more beauty in our downtown.

Promotions & Events
The Promotions and Events Committee meets at 4pm on the 2nd Thursday of every month in the Visitor Center!
What is Promotions and Events?
The job of the P&E committee is to promote downtown as the center of commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors alike.
Our promotions committee works hard to develop and produce events that draw crowds to our commercial center, as well as to spread awareness about what is going on in town to the community and beyond.
P&E Projects
Promotion and Events Committee volunteers help plan events such as our annual blacksmith festival Fire on the Mountain, Third Thursdays, Hilloween related events, winter holiday events, and develop new ideas for future events and promotions.
We Need Your Help
In addition to helping with festivals and events, volunteers can work on maintaining a social media presence, making announcements and sharing the story of the downtown area with their smaller communities.

Economic Vitality
The Economic Vitality Committee meets as needed.
What is Economic Vitality?
The job of the Economic Vitality Committee is to identify new market opportunities for the traditional commercial district, find new uses for historic commercial buildings, and stimulate investment in property.
The EV Committee must develop a thorough understanding of the district’s economic condition and its best opportunities, focusing on incremental changes that gradually improve the area’s economic foundation and eventually make large-scale investment possible.
Economic Vitality Projects
A large project of the Economic Vitality was playing an instrumental role in the development and construction of the Central Park- Visitor Center complex, turning an empty lot into a focal point, information center and place for events and leisure.
The Economic Vitality Committee initiated the Downtown Entrepreneur Assistance Program, offering education and financial assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs seeking to start a business in downtown Spruce Pine.
This committee works on seeking solutions to the challenge of repurposing old buildings, working with the town to purchase, refurbish, rent or sell suitable buildings to new businesses.
